Day 1: Thanks for Me

This is our first day of the 30 Thankful Days Challenge. If you haven’t downloaded the free companion journal, here is the link. I hope you enjoy!

Is it selfish to give thanks for the miracle that is you, for the unique person you are? You may think so at first. But we must love ourselves before we can freely give love to others. That’s an important life lesson for many people.

Since no two fingerprints are alike, no two people can be exactly the same, right? Even if they try to be.

In what ways are you different from everyone else? What characteristics mark your personality? What individual traits embody the person you are?

Even as genetics can be an interesting mix of traits handed down through the DNA of our ancestors, we still come out like no one else, and that’s what we’re going to celebrate today: the YOUniqueness of YOU!

Day 1 JOURNAL EXERCISE: Giving Thanks for ME

What do you like about yourself? Take a few moments to write down what you consider to be your best traits. As a warmup, you can start with more surface characteristics. Maybe you’re proud of the thickness of your hair, your long legs, or your flawless, smooth skin.

After exploring the physical traits, take it a step further. If someone were to describe your strengths, what would they say? Are you clever? Humorous? A problem solver? Someone who never quits?

Go on, feel free to expound on what you’re good at and how you can use your gifts to help others.

It’s not silly to know yourself, love yourself, and give thanks for all the things that make you special and different. In fact, if we take an exploratory approach of our best qualities, we can often set ourselves on a better path.

  • Figuring out what you’re good at can lead to a more fulfilling job or career.
  • Discovering what brings you joy can lead to a deeper exploration and development of your God-given talents.
  • Knowing the ways we shine can open the door to invite like minds and kindred spirits into our lives.
  • Determining how we can use our strengths to help others can put us on a path of service to others that can fulfill us as we make a difference.

Feeling good about the person we are can bring a burst of newfound confidence. This isn’t bragging. This is about the quiet acceptance of ourselves, so that we may more readily give to others.

What can you give thanks for about you?
