Salmon is tasty and healthy regardless of whether it is broiled, baked or grilled. It is filled with heart-healthy omega 3 fatty acids. Wild salmon is also high in selenium, which is an antioxidant that improves heart health. It is important to note that all salmon is not created equal. You will need to choose wild-caught salmon instead of farm-raised salmon.

Not only are beans good for your heart, but you do not have to eat a lot of them in order to benefit. In fact, you can reduce your cholesterol by eating a cup of beans every day. The reason that beans are so good for you is that they have soluble fiber. Soluble fiber helps bind cholesterol and prevent it from being absorbed. It also prevents the body from producing more cholesterol.

Additionally, beans have flavonoids in them. Flavonoids can prevent the platelets from clumping together. This can reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks.

4. Nuts

Walnuts are filled with many heart-healthy nutrients including fiber, vitamin E and omega 3 fatty acids. It also has polyunsaturated fats, which are good for the heart. Additionally, walnuts can help you keep your memory sharp. It is best for you to eat the nuts unsalted.

Almonds are another healthy nut that you can eat. They are high in omega 3 fatty acids. It is a great alternative for people who do not like the taste of walnuts.

5. Dark Chocolate

Studies have shown that eating a small amount of dark chocolate can help thin the blood. It can also reduce inflammation in the body. Furthermore, dark chocolate helps keep the blood vessels healthy. There was a study done that involved the Kuna people who lived off of the San Blas Islands. These people are nine times less likely to develop heart disease. The researchers found out that people consume a lot of cocoa.

    Great post! I buy dried beans by the 20lb bag and cook a big pot every Monday. The first night we eat them as a main dish with homemade bread, then they become chili or retried beans for 2 more nights of easy meals.

    I’m delighted to see that some of my favorite things are on this list. I eat almonds daily and eat yogurt, salmon, beans and dark chocolate at least a few times a month. I can honestly tell the difference when I’ve been eating well and drinking water and when I’ve decided to venture off and eat “junk.”
