Financial wellness is a category that many of us feel we could use some help in. Financial wellness is not only having a steady income to meet our basic needs but is also defined by reducing debt, managing money well, and investing in the future. A key starting point in managing your money is to take a look at what’s going out and what’s coming in.

Organize: Put It On Paper (or Screen)

Starting a finance spreadsheet or using an app or tool to organize your expenses is a great way to get to know your money better. Once you’ve completed this step, you will be able to see where there is balance and where adjustments need to be made in your finances. Continuing to groom your financial data regularly by looking at accounts daily and updating your spreadsheet or app monthly will reflect how well you are doing and what may need to shift for future success.

Find Your Money Blocks

Feeling good about your finances also involves developing your mindset skills. It would be useful to think about what values you have surrounding money and what blocks may be showing up for you. Money blocks are beliefs such as: “I don’t deserve to make a lot of money”, “Rich people are selfish” and “Making good money is hard and costs your family or home life to achieve”. Messages like these may be swirling around in your mind. But it is good to evaluate where they came from and how true they really are.

Do these messages serve your goals or inhibit them? It may be time to re-write your money story by positively shifting your beliefs and habits. Who knows… you may become a magnet for abundance, a money-making machine, or your own financial guru.
