Day 23 of the July UBC. We are on the downhill slide…

Just a quick post today.

Yesterday was my daughter’s senior photo day. It was an ordeal — and it’s not done yet!

First: Makeup

We went to a salon to get her face made up. No foundation or anything but some neutral eye shadow and blush and some shiny lipgloss.

We gathered her outfits and a bag packed with things we might need: extra hair accessories, lipgloss, undergarments, and shoes. We were ready!

Marathon Photoshoot

We got to the photo studio feeling excited. Checked in without drama.

We were directed to a variety of photo stations. And I realized that my husband and I might have been too ambitious when purchasing the photo package. When I was a senior, our photo shoots did involve multiple scenic backdrops but weren’t very complex.

Just 3 years ago, my son had a photo shoot for his senior photos. Tuxedo shots, cap and gown shots, and probably 2 adjustable backgrounds. He didn’t want me to come into the actual studio so I sat in the lobby. He made short work of the process (he took some great shots, by the way!) and we were quickly on our way!

But yesterday…

We had 6 or 7 scenes to get through! First, the yearbook photo with the drapes for the girls and the tuxes for the boys. Then, we had the cap and gown photo. K was feeling silly for both of them so they took longer to complete than they should have.

Then, we went to the station called Emerge. Most of the pictures from this shoot would be facial shots. I think she had gotten into the spirit of everything and did a great job. I ended up in a few of these shots. One of these photos will be one of our favorites, I am sure. K and I had our faces together, both smiling. I really liked it and several people in the studio who saw the proofs seemed to like it as well. I will be excited to see them…

Unfortunately, I can’t get a hold of any of the images until next month…

Then there were 2 other stations: one was a plain white background with balloons which seemed to go well. The last one was called the living wall with a lot of greenery on one wall.

With the living wall, we literally hit a wall. Smiles were difficult to come by and she started looking sleepy.

And there were 2 more stations to go!

So, we rescheduled the final two for Tuesday. One of those shoots will be outside. I had totally forgotten about the family letterman’s jacket so I am kind of glad I have another shot at wardrobe planning.

We want a picture similar to this one with her wearing the jacket…

Anyway, the saga of the senior pictures continues…

Have a beautiful Sunday, everyone!

Oh, those simple days are gone. Everything seems to be so elaborate today. When you consider the baby gender announcements etc., it seems like many things are now productions! I think it is very lucky your daughter grew weary. The picture with the family jacket is so cool and not to be missed! Happy Sunday of Rest!!! Cindy Rae

Your daughter is so beautiful, she doesn’t need makeup! Senior picture day sure has changed with all the different settings. When I graduated ( 56 years ago) we had a black velvet shoulder drape and the photographer came to the school gym! Looking forward to seeing the finished photos!

Oh, I do remember how stressful it was when I was taking pictures for my own senior pics experience. I was so worried that I wouldn’t look good, but instead, one of the pictures was the only one I have ever had that made me look dewy and luminous. I hope your daughter’s pictures will have beautiful surprises, too!
