Try Passion Projects to Regain Lost Energy

Day 29

Being responsible and doing things you’re obligated to is noble. The world needs people they can depend on to get things done and do the right thing. Being conscientious about your commitments is a sign of maturity and trustworthiness, but it can lead to boredom.

It takes a lot of energy to do the long list of things that are expected of us each day. Going to work, serving your family, community, friends, and more can be exhausting. Sure, there’s some fun sprinkled in here and there, but for the most part being dependable can be a boring drag from time to time.

Finding a project you are passionate about might be the anecdote to the boredom or apathy that comes from being a steady Eddie that everyone counts on.

Here are some Dos and Don’ts for finding a passion project to get excited about.

Dos

  • Pick something out of the ordinary lineup you’ve already committed to. Variety is the spice of life. Finding a passion project that isn’t tied to what you are already doing helps rejuvenate lost energy.
  • Ask yourself important questions before you dive in. Passion projects should feel effortless and inspiring. If you can’t get excited about diving in and doing the work, you may not be passionate enough about the project.
  • Find projects that speak to your heart. Passion projects are usually born from a deep-seated connection to the project. From working for a non-profit to volunteering to feed orphaned animals. Generally speaking, the project is near and dear to your heart.

Don’ts

  • Overextend yourself. Though the project may be energizing and exciting, make certain it isn’t taking away from the other commitments you have. If you don’t balance your energy, things could end up feeling overwhelming and what started out as a fun new adventure ends up being a grind.
  • Forget to include others. One of the fun parts of passion projects is sharing enthusiasm with others. Be sure to connect and build friendships with people you encounter while you enjoy your project. The added benefit of friendship and support adds to your energy.
  • Talk yourself out of a passion project. It’s easy to deny ourselves things that feel unnecessary or take away from other activities. It’s important to realize that having a purpose that is personal and fulfilling is a rewarding way to invest in yourself and will help you feel valuable and proud. Don’t deny the benefits you bring to a passion project and the benefits the project brings to you.

Conclusion

Having projects that uniquely fulfill our heart’s desires helps revive lost energy and generate enthusiasm for life. If you’ve been strapped down by life, feeling overwhelmed by responsibility, it might be a great time to begin a passion project and enjoy the sense of satisfaction it brings.

I love plants and I spend most of my time taking care of them. I am seriously considering going into the art of bonsai making. Currently reading a lot on how to start and what kind of plant would be ideal to make bonsais. Thank you for your advice. It was a good read for me today.

Passion projects are projects that cover something you are really interested in and that you typically do outside of your regular job. It’s an extra project on a topic you’re “passionate” about. Thanks for reading!
