You’re a Checkup Away from Having More Energy
It’s Day 13 of the Ultimate Blog Challenge. This looks at how your health can impact your energy
Let’s imagine you’re doing all the right things- eating well, maintaining a healthy weight, sleeping enough, working out… but you still feel sort of blah. What’s that all about? If you’re making smart decisions about your health but you still feel tired, it’s time to head to the doctor.
Annual Physical

Getting an annual physical is important. Having a routine examination, including blood work, can detect problems well before symptoms begin to surface. Making sure to see your doctor at least once per year can help keep track of your health over time which makes diagnostics even easier. People who feel healthy tend to bypass regular checkups, sensing nothing’s wrong so there’s no reason to get checked out. The thing is, you might be a checkup away from having more energy.
If you suffer from low levels of energy, there might be something going on. There are a lot of underlying reasons why otherwise healthy people might experience fatigue and low energy. A few include-
- Thyroid disease
- Anemia
- Chronic inflammation
Having screenings for these and other conditions can help your physician diagnose and treat the condition which will restore your energy and help you be as healthy as possible.
Thyroid Disease

Hypothyroidism refers to an under-producing thyroid. Our thyroid produces important hormones that help with vital bodily functions including regulating heartbeat and helping with sleep. An underproductive thyroid isn’t producing enough hormones. This can lead to lethargy, weakness, sleepiness, and slow metabolism. If you feel tired all the time, your thyroid might be part of the problem.
Anemia

Your body relies on iron to produce a protein called hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is found in red blood cells and is used to carry oxygen in the blood to various organs. When there is an iron deficiency, there’s not enough hemoglobin which reduces oxygen and creates fatigue. If you feel tired, it might be attributed to low iron.
Chronic Inflammation

Inflammation registers in the body as illness and pain. When your body is chronically inflamed, it uses energy to combat the inflammation which reduces energy for other things. If you’re tired a lot it could mean that you are living with chronic inflammation that is diverting your energy towards healing rather than getting through the day without needing to nap.
Conclusion

If you are doing what you know to do to create and sustain energy, but still seem to feel weary, a checkup might be all you need to discover an illness or injury that’s stealing your energy. Make an appointment with your physician and get an annual checkup and watch how it improves your energy!

Dominique, great reminders of why we need annual physicals. Because of my gynecologist, she found out that I had a hyperthyroid problem – Graves disease. My family has a long history of cancers and so in my case, it’s a non-negotiable part of my self-care. It’s cheaper in the long run to prevent illnesses and diseases than trying to cure them.
Thanks for the reminders.

I love that checklist. Seems I’m doing OK atm! I sometimes wonder if I’m a bit anaemic. I need to start taking iron tablets.

Good reminder why we need to go to our annual check ups. If we don’t we are just building up problems for the future

Early detection is always your best chance at combatting disease–and mostly, annual checks uncover many of those that people do not realize they have. As a dentist, I express the need for regular visits to me (for regular cleaning and checkup).
This simple step keeps you ahead of potential problems–and even prevent its onset.

Even though we think we are doing everything right, often there can be things going on in our body that we are not aware of. It is important that we are going to the doctor and getting a physical every year.

I’m doing some check-ups religiously. I just need to know what’s going on in my body.

It’s true that it’s important to understand what is happening to your body and an annual check-up is essential – sometimes you may find something that you are not aware of. – Knycx Journeying

the importance of regular health checkups can never be done away with. I do it regularly and I feel it is much more relevant in today’s timelines

With everything that has been going on this pandemic, we have to take care of our health more and doing checkups can definitely help.

I have PCOS so I always have inflammation. I am trying hard to work on it naturally because the only thing the doctor tells me is that It’s hard to lose weight with PCOS, but what could help my PCOS is to lose weight. So I am on my own until I find another Doctor.

It’s a vicious cycle, right? I hope you find a doc that can give you a more workable plan!
