Are you feeling overwhelmed and burned out? Do you want to make lasting changes in your life but don’t know where to start? Nourishing your soul is essential in creating meaningful, lasting change in your life. This self-care checklist will provide actionable tips to help you take time for yourself, reduce stress, and become your best self.

Set the Right Boundaries

There is no doubt about the challenge of finding time for work and personal commitments without feeling overwhelmed. To make sure you’re taking the time for yourself that you need, set boundaries with people in your life and commit to a reasonable action plan.

Exercise

Exercise is vital for physical health as it helps reduce mental stress and improve mood. Therefore, exercise must be part of your daily routine by habituating just ten minutes of physical activity every morning, day, or night.

Get Enough Sleep

Not getting enough sleep is a major cause of stress. Therefore, you must ensure you get the rest you need to function at your best. A consistent and effective sleep schedule includes prioritizing and regulating your sleep and wake times so that they are generally the same each day. You’ll accomplish this by avoiding caffeine and other stimulants late in the day and reducing screen time before bed.

Eat Healthy Foods

Fueling your body with healthy foods that give you energy throughout the day is important. Eating nutrient-rich fruits, vegetables, proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats will help reduce stress levels and improve overall well-being.

Practice Mindfulness

Taking time every day to be mindful of the present moment helps to ease anxiety and sharpen focus. Pay attention to the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes around you; notice how luxuriously comfortable your body feels as it relaxes into the chair or bed; connect with your breath as it moves in and out of your lungs; focus on these sensations while clearing away any other intrusive thoughts or worries that arise.

Take Time for Yourself

Self-care is not just about physical health; it also involves taking time to do something that brings you joy. Carve out a few moments in the day to take a leisurely stroll around your neighborhood, meditate, read a good book, or catch up with an old friend.

Have Fun

Life is about more than just work or taking care of yourself. You are allowed to have fun too. Do something you’ve always wanted to do. Try out a new hobby. Laugh with your friends and family. Create lasting memories that will nourish your soul for years to come.

Conclusion

Getting started on creating personal transformation never needs to feel overwhelming; use this checklist to help you get started. Good luck on your journey.

I like this checklist! I most like the idea of exercise as self-care. Typically I’m trying to avoid it at all cost, but viewing it as a way to care for not only my physical, but also my mental and emotional well-being is an awesome way to motivate myself to get on the treadmill:-)

Great checklist Dominique! I need to the getting enough sleep one. I have a habit of reading on my phone til the wee hours of the morning, then realize I have to get up in 3 hours!

I love this checklist! I recently took a mental health day and told my boss it was not a vacation day. Sick days are for mental health too. She was very supportive and I took the day (and another half day) with no guilt. Listen to your body – I say – and know when to give it a rest.

I literally need to do all of the above, starting with number one on your list, thank you for the reminder. My son graduates from junior high, and there’s so many activities, outings, sleepovers, celebration for which he needs clothes and stuff. It’s exhausting. Don’t get me started on what *I* am going to wear at his graduation party!
